£30m Eco-friendly Spending Plan In the South East

A five-year programme costing £30m is planned to make the South East a more eco-friendly region.

Half the money has come from the European Commission, and the rest from the South East England Development Agency (Seeda).

Councils, public and private bidders, and not-for-profit organisations are all being encouraged to apply for a share of the funding.

A Seeda spokesman said projects should start being approved in March 2008.

The funding will be used to "promote competitiveness while contributing to the reduction of the region's ecological footprint", he said.

The agency covers the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and East and West Sussex.
